  1. Good day.

    • Hi, Elvin!

According to R.A. 1080, you’ll have a first grade eligibility if:
      – if the course you finished took four years or more
      – if you passed the board exam for the said course
      – if you’ve practiced your profession for at least two years

On the other hand, second grade eligibility will be granted if:
      – the course you finished took less than two years
      – if you pass the board exam for the said course

  10. hi everyone, just want to inform u, that there is a school offering fri sat sun class days in southeast asian colleges in quezon city, for those midwives who want to finish bsm, and in fabella they are also offering bsm but you have to enroll earlier, like february.

  11. hi!

Have been searching a college/university in the Philippines long time ago and even contacted several times PLM but no avail. Actually, we are far behind to school curriculum compared to other countries. In skills, we are competitive, but lacking of educational aspects. It is disappointing due to a lesser degree. Why the Philippines Department of Education until now can’t uplift General Midwifery to BSM? As an overseas worker we deem to upgrade our educational background to seek licensure abroad and for promotion purposes.

Hopefully, may this letter will reach the proper authority and if possible for us Registered Midwives working local and abroad will be given a chance to continue their studies through distance education like UP Open University.

    thanks,
    letty

  12. do you guys know a school offering bsm with sat sun class?for those who are graduates of 2 years mid…and are already license?..i heard it from someone before..am not sure if realy, there is..

    • Hi, Liberty!

      Thanks for visiting our site.

Unfortunately, we don’t know of any such schools, but we hope one of our visitors could help.

      ^^

      • Hello,

I am very interested to BS Midwifery, but of us who have graduates as GM would like to pursue the additional curriculum, Is there online study to some schools here in the Philippines,, thats more convenience for us especially who are working in shifts to different hospital.. hope you pay attetion,, thanks and more power to midwives!

        • Hi, Nasus!

          Thanks for visiting our site.

Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila lists BS Midwifery as one of their course offerings at their open university. Open universities usually offer online classes, so you might want to check with PLM.

    • Hi, Ruth!

      Thanks for visiting our site.

We’re sorry, but right now, we have no available information regarding schools offering scholarships for students interested in taking BSM. We’d make a post about it if and when we come across such information, though.

  14. Hi. My niece is a graduate of a 2yr Midwifery course. What is her next step to be a Registered Midwife? Is OJT still needed in order to take the licensure exam? What will be the procedure? Does she need to pay for OJT or are there hospitals that offer free training?

I hope you can help me.. I’m kind of lost here.. We’re located in Bohol and Cebu.

    • “Hello!

I’m a graduate of the two-year Midwifery course as well. From my experience, we were required to have an OJT; however, it was integrated in the program, so we were already done with it by the time we graduated. The fee for the OJT was part of the miscellaneous fees we paid the school when we enrolled, so we didn’t pay the hospital where we had it. If your niece is going to do some volunteer work for some extra credit, like for employment purposes, there are some hospitals that do charge a minimal fee for the training.

      Hope that helps.
      Ann ”

  15. hi, I am already a registered midwife & was encouraged by a friend to proceed BSM. My question is…. Is there board exam again after graduating BS in Midwifery?

    • Hi, Alexa!

      Thanks for visiting our site.

From what we know, those who are already registered midwives are no longer required to take the Midwifery Licensure Exam after obtaining a BSM degree. That’s just from what we know, though. It’s still best if you’ll verify it from PRC to be sure.

  16. hi,
i already finished my BSCHS course @ PLM open university..am i still going to enroll bs midwifery?..what is the difference among the two?

    • Hi, Arlyn!

      Thanks for visiting our site.

We’re sorry, but as much as we’d like to answer to answer your question, we have no available information about it. Since you mentioned that you finished your course at PLM and PLM also has a midwifery program, it’s best if you’ll consult them directly so they can give you a more accurate and detailed response.

  17. Hi i graduated midwifery last 2004, have not taken my board exam until now. i no want to take it. can i still take it? and its been long years now. what can i do to be able to review myself. and how was that bs midwifery can help me in my situation?

    • Hi, Ana!

      Thanks for visiting our site.

As far as we know, there is no rule that requires graduates to take the respective licensure examinations for their fields right after they graduate. As for the review, there are review centers that offer review classes for those who are going to take the Licensure Examination for Midwives; you’ll just have to pick one that you think will be best for you.

From what we know, BS Midwifery covers a wider scope, both with regard to classroom discussions and related learning experiences, so that might give you a slight advantage not only in taking the licensure examination, but when applying for jobs in the future as well. We’re no experts regarding this topic, though, so it’s still best if you’ll discuss it with professionals so they can give you a more accurate and detailed response.

  18. i just wonder why in the philippines we don’t have MA in midwifery, naiwan na tayo sa ibang bansa .there are so many midwives i know would like to pursue their career but it seems neglected still to further education because there is no master degrees and phd s in midwifery offering . If these are available in the philippines, so it helps reduce maternal, infant mortality rates sa pinas.

    • Hi, Silvia!

Thank you for visiting our site and for sharing your thoughts with us.

We are with you in hoping that additional opportunities for further education will open up for midwifery graduates in the Philippines.

    • Hi, Anataroma!

      Thanks for visiting our site.

We’re not really sure about that. It would be best if you’ll contact the school you are thinking of applying at so they can give you a more accurate and detailed response.

  21. hi! Since Midwifery course is already four years/ bachelors degree holders. Will Civil Service Commission grant Professional eligibility for us graduates? which means qualified for government officer position. Thanks much

    • Hi, Lane!

      Thanks for visiting our site.

From what we know, you can get civil service eligibility – regardless whether you’re a graduate of a two, three, four, or five-year course – as long as you’ll pass the Career Service Examination.Civil service eligibility is just one of the requirements in seeking employment in a government agency, though, so it would still depend on the specific requirements of the job whether you’ll qualify for a certain position or not.

  22. i cant believe still phil.do’nt have bs midwifery.. i really wanted to pursue my course but i searched for a long time still they dont even mind how important the role of midwives in the phil. since people call us a barefoot doctor, we work not for money but to rendered a quality services that people needs.

    • Hi, Jho!

      Thanks for visiting our site.

We’re sorry to hear that… Actually, there are already some schools that offer BS Midwifery program in the Philippines. We’re still working on compiling them, though, so the section dedicated to them on this page is still under construction.

      πŸ™‚

      • Fabella in Manila and South East Asian College in Quezon City are now offering BSM, and University of Bohol in Visayas region.

    • I already ask to Pamantasang Lunsod ng Maynila-Open University if they have a BS Midwifery but unfortunately they don’t have..

  23. iam already a registerd midwife with license working here in saudi arabia what will i do to get the bachelor want to process it when i will come home for my vacation .thank you and more power

    • Hi, Violeta!

      Thanks for visiting our site.

Have you considered the idea of taking a distance learning program? If so, you might want to check out Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila’s Open University. They reportedly offer BS Midwifery as one of their academic programs. http://plm.php0h.com/?page_id=32

      πŸ™‚

  24. hi…meron po b kayong scholraship available for b.s midwifery?..thanx

    • Hi, Med!

Thank you for visiting our site.

As of now, we don’t know of any scholarship programs specifically meant for Midwifery students. Almost all colleges and universities have their own scholarship programs, though, so you might want to check with the school you’re enrolled at/going to enroll at if they have any programs that might be suitable for you.

      Good luck!

      πŸ™‚

  25. hi I am already a Registered Midwife, can I continue my studies to BSM?
If yes, what year do i have to start?

    • Hi, Thess!

Thank you for visiting our site.

Yes, you can. As far as we know, graduates who already have a Diploma in Midwifery can continue their studies starting from the third year of the BSM program. Some schools may have different curricula, though, so it would probably be best if you’ll ask the concerned officials of the school you are going to apply to to be sure.

  26. pwede ba mgprocced ang RM na sa BS midwifery??

    • Hi, Mavic!

      Thanks for visiting the site.

Could you have meant RN (Registered Nurse) instead of RM (Registered Midwife)? If so, RNs no longer have to take BS Midwifery to become a professional midwife. As long as you’ll pass the Licensure Examination for Midwives and meet the following additional requirements, you’ll be good to go. http://www.scribd.com/doc/52052915/NEW-MIDWIFERY-REQUIREMENTS

      πŸ™‚

      • i mean RM registered midwife..what is the benefits if i proceed to BS midwifery?? registered midwife na ako..kung kukuha ako ng bs midwifery..third year nba ako agad or babalik sa 1st year??

        • Hi, Mavic!

          Thanks for coming back.

Sorry about that. According to a Midwifery graduate we talked to, those who have already completed the 2-year Midwifery program will be considered as third year students when they enroll for the four-year BS Midwifery program.

As for the benefits of proceeding to BS Midwifery, we’re not quite sure about that. It might be better if you’ll consult actual professionals as they are in a better position to address your concern.

You could probably start with the Integrated Midwives Association of the Philippines, Inc.

          πŸ™‚

  27. Where to study Bachelor in Midwifery in the Philippines? Is there any distance study program offered? Thank you

    • Hi, Raquel!

      Thanks for visiting the site!

There are a lot of schools that offer BS Midwifery. It depends on where (location) you want to study. Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila is said to be offering BS Midwifery as one of their distance education programs . You could probably find more information about it by getting in touch with their official representatives.
