The Bachelor of Science in Electronics and Communications Engineering (BSECE), also known as Bachelor of Science in Electronics Engineering, is a five-year degree program in the Philippines that is mainly concerned with the conceptualization, design and development of any electronic, computer or communication products, systems, services and processes.

Some examples of courses you may take under this program include:

  • Biomedical Engineering
  • Microprocessor Systems
  • ECE Laws, Contract and Ethics
  • Electronic Devices and Circuits
  • Industrial Electronics
  • Electromagnetics
  • Signals, Spectra, and Signal Processing
  • Transmission Media and Antenna System
  • Principles of Communications
  • Energy Conversion
  • Data Communications
  • Vector Analysis

An On-the-Job Training (OJT) at television and radio Stations, telecommunication companies, and companies that manufacture semiconductors and biomedical products may also be facilitated by your school to provide you with hands-on practice of the things you’ll learn under this program.

What Students Have to Say:

CAREERS

BS Electronics and Communications Engineering graduates can apply for any of the following positions:

  • Broadcast Engineer. Broadcast engineers usually work at TV or radio stations and are responsible for overseeing the transmission of signals and the automation of broadcast programs.
  • Telecommunications Engineer – Telecommunication engineers usually work at telecommunication companies (e.g. PLDT/Digitel) designing and overseeing the installation of telecommunications equipment and facilities.
  • Computer Systems Engineer – Computer systems engineers work for different companies specializing in different fields. They work out specific computer systems that match the company’s operational needs.
  • Biomedical Engineer – Biomedical engineers work in the medical field. They’re tasked with designing and developing medical equipment such as prosthetic devices, artificial organs, and the like.
  • Robotics/Mechatronics Engineer – Robotics or mechatronics engineers design and develop robots that can perform a number of different tasks. These may include robots used in industrial plants, medical facilities, or battlefields.
  • Optics Engineer – Optics engineers work with fields that require knowledge and understanding of light. These may include biomedical engineering where they develop imaging tools and consumer mechanics where they design and develop machines and gadgets like TVs, computers, handphones, and the like.

LICENSURE EXAMINATION

Passing the Licensure Examination for Electronic Engineers is one of the requirements in seeking employment in the field of Electronic Engineering. Please visit the official website of the Professional Regulatory Commission (PRC) for more information.

  1. I am 4th year student and I am interested in BS ECE but I have a question? when I am graduate in bs ECE I can apply all careers? like if I want to apply of robotic engineer and I switch in computer system engineer is it okey when I can do that?

    • Hi, Leveen!

It would depend on the requirements of the job and the company that you are thinking of applying at. There are jobs that can be performed even by applicants who are not graduates of a particular course and there are companies who are open to giving those types of applicants a chance as long as their degree are still relevant to the job or that they have considerable potential. There are, however, highly technical jobs that require applicants to have extensive knowledge of particular things, in which case, companies would typically impose a strict course requirement. We suggest you browse job sites for actual job advertisements to get an idea of what companies typically require.

  2. Hello!
I would like to ask what companies are in need of OJT trainees? Because I’m having a hard time looking for companies that accept internship. Could you give me a list of electronics companies here in the Philippines? I am required to take the internship for electronics field during this summer.
I highly appreciated your immediate responce.
    Thank you

  3. I Want to take engineering course and I want to take the best engineering course, what is it?

  4. any idea what university or college offering an online school for engineering?

  5. i am a 4th year student iam interested in bs ece but then what kind of job is BS ECE

    • Hi, Gerald.

      Thanks for visiting our site.

We’ve updated our BS ECE post to include a brief description of some of the jobs BS ECE graduates can apply for. Hope it helps. 🙂

    • Hi sir!

i am 4th year student now can i ask something?
can the student workers can take the course BS ECE ?

      • Hi, Ryan!

        Thanks for visiting our site.

If you meant students working part-time outside of school, as far as we know, most schools do not have any issues with that, although we’re not sure if there are those which prohibit their students from working while studying.

If you meant taking BS ECE through a scholarship program obtained by working as a student assistant at the school, we haven’t come across schools that specify which course/s the student assistant can take, so probably not. That may depend on the school, though, so it’s still best if you’ll ask the school you are going to enroll at so they can give you an accurate and more detailed response.

        Good luck! 🙂

  6. hello, i am a medical technologist and i am interested in becoming a biomedical engineer. could i use bsECE as a ground to this matter? thank you.

    • Hi, Chester!

      Thanks for visiting our site.

Yes, you can. Graduates of BS ECE are usually the next in line for biomedical engineer jobs after graduates of BS Biomedical Engineering. In some cases, having a BS ECE degree alone is enough.

  7. Uhmm. Hello! Where should I take BSECE? Where is the best school for this course? I can’t make up my mind where will I study. Thank you. :))

  8. sir

I am 4th year student going to college can i ask you what should i take BSME or BSECE??? what are the starting salaries for both of these courses??? thx..

    • Hi, Mark!

      Thanks for visiting our site.

It depends on your interests and the career path you’d wish to take in the future. BSME and BS ECE have similar subjects, but BS ME would probably be better for you if you are interested in machines in general. These may include cars and similar vehicles, machines used at industrial plants, household appliances, and the like. BS ECE, on the other hand, will probably be good for you if you are interested in the design and development of electronic devices that rely on data communication such as mobile phones, computers, robots, navigation devices et cetera.

As for the salary, mechanical engineers have been reported to earn between 15, 000 to 18, 000 a month. We’re just not sure about electronic engineers.
