Criminology Board Exam


 

The Criminology Board Exam, also known as the Licensure Exam for Criminologists, is a board exam facilitated by the Board of Criminology under the Professional Regulatory Commission to assess the competency of BS Criminology graduates. It traces its history back to July 01, 1972 when the Board Examiners for Criminology was created pursuant to Republic Act No. 6506 entitled “An Act Creating the Board of Examiners for Criminologists in the Philippines and For Other Purposes.”

As per PRC, individuals who passed the Criminology board exam need not take any other qualifying exams to be eligible for the following government positions:

  • Dactylographer
  • Ballistician
  • Questioned Document Examiner
  • Correctional Officer
  • Law Enforcement Photographer
  • Lie Detection Examiner
  • Probation Officer
  • Agents in any law enforcement agency
  • Security Officer
  • Criminal Investigator
  • Police Laboratory Technician
  • Patrolman in chartered cities and municipalities (provided they posses the general qualifications for appointment provided in Section 9 of Republic Act 4864)

SCOPE OF THE EXAM

The licensure exam will cover all the important things you have learned during your four years in college. These include the following:

  • Criminal Jurisprudence, Procedure, and Evidence (20 %) -  Criminal Law Book I, Criminal Law Book II, Criminal Procedure, Evidence, and Court Testimony
  • Law Enforcement Administration (20%) - Police Organization and Administration with Police Planning, Industrial Security Administration, Police Patrol Operations with Police Communication System, Police Intelligence, Police Personnel and Records Management, Comparative System
  • Criminalistics (20%) - Personal Identification, Police Photography, Forensic Ballistics, Questioned Documents Examination, Polygraph (Lie Detection), Legal Medicine
  • Crime Detection and Investigation (15%) - Fundamentals of Criminal Investigation, Traffic Management and Accident Investigation, Special Crime Investigation, Organized Crime Investigation, Drug Education and Vice Control, Fire Technology and Arson Investigation
  • Sociology of Crimes and Ethics (15%) - Introduction to Criminology and Psyc hology of Crimes, Philippine Criminal Justice System, Ethics and Values, Juvenile Delinquency, Human Behavior and Crisis Management and Criminological Research and Statistics
  • Correctional Administration (10%) - Institutional Corrections, Non-institutional Corrections

TAKING THE EXAM

Licensure exams for BS Criminology graduates are held twice a year, usually around the months of March and October. Below are the dates and testing centers for the 2013 Criminology Board Exam:
