How to Take TESDA Courses for Free

Since its inception in 1994, TESDA has been providing Filipinos with a more affordable way to learn skills that they can use to seek employment both here and overseas through the free TESDA courses that they offer through any of their offices located all over the Philippines as well as affiliate schools and training centers.

Now running on its 15th year, the agency is already offering more than 200 courses from different fields and specializations, notable examples of which include courses in the fields of engineering, healthcare, tourism, and entrepreneurship.

If you have been interested in enrolling in one for yourself, here are some examples of how students were able to enroll in TESDA courses for free 1.

Enrolling in a Training Center Directly Administered by TESDA

TESDA has a lot of training centers all over the country, so checking with any of the training centers under their direct supervision might help you enroll in a TESDA course for free.

Whether you can enroll without paying anything at all, or you will be asked to pay a minimal fee prior to enrollment, may depend on the course you want to enroll in and the availability of scholarship slots left for a particular training center, so you might want to call up the training center you’re thinking of enrolling at to check.

Looking for Schools or Training Centers that Have Been Awarded TESDA scholarships

Aside from public schools that are known to cater to people who do not have the financial means to enroll in paid classes, TESDA also works with private schools and training centers to ensure that more people can avail of their programs. These select schools and training centers are then given “scholarship vouchers” that they can award to deserving applicants. These vouchers are usually limited to a few slots per school or locality, though, so it’s usually awarded on a first come, first served basis.

Given how limited the number of these slots is and how many people are hoping to secure a scholarship, the availability of these slots may not be widely publicized, so you might have to call the training centers in your area one by one to check if they have any scholarships available. You can find the list of schools and training centers authorized to offer TESDA courses through this TESDA tool (PRESSING the “enter” key would return zero results, so please CLICK “search” instead).

Enrolling in the TESDA Online Scholarship Program

Aside from courses offered through traditional class lectures, TESDA also offers free online courses that interested applicants can take from literally anywhere as long as they have access to the internet. All you have to do is register for an account. Once you’ve registered, you’ll have access to different modules that teach different competencies. Some of these modules use Facebook applications, though, so if you don’t have one yet, you may have to register for an account too. You can find more information about the TESDA Online Program as well as the current list of courses they offered on their website.

Other Possible Sources of Scholarship Grants

Aside from those, there are also some private companies that offer TESDA scholarships to deserving students as part of their community outreach programs, so if you’ll search the internet or ask around for a bit, you might just find a couple of them.

Local and provincial government units often allot funds for scholarship programs as well, so you might want to ask them if they have any available scholarship slots.

Again, most scholarship grants are limited in number and offered on a first come, first-served basis, so diligent searching and promptness is the key to securing a slot. If you give it your best, it will only be a matter of time before you find one.

Good luck!

Footnotes:

1: Schools and training centers directly administered by TESDA often offer TESDA courses for free, but “free” usually only applies to tuition fees. Depending on the course requirements, students may be asked to bring or buy their own tools or materials for the training

  4. This is to clarify your scholarship program particularly in Geneal Santos Trade School. Knowing that its for free as it is ‘scholarship’ program, how come a friend of mine who is on a 6 month welding training there at the moment is asked to buy his own welding gears & PPE?

    • Hi, Amor!

From what we know, the scholarships usually only cover the tuition fee. Depending on the course requirements, the students may be asked to bring or buy their own tools or materials for the training. For instance, some of our acquaintances who took dressmaking and cooking classes were asked to bring their own fabrics and buy their own ingredients. It may vary per training center, so you might want to get in touch with TESDA or the training center’s officials to be sure.
