Philippine Educational Placement Test and Alternative Learning System Accreditation and Equivalency Program
Not everyone is given the chance to complete their studies without interruption. Sometimes financial, health, and personal problems force a student to stop schooling for a year or two; sometimes they force the student to stop from going to school altogether, probably in order to work, raise a family, or to attend to a personal problem.
In the past, students would have had no choice but to catch up on the years they spent away from school once they have resumed their schooling, but thanks to programs like the Philippine Educational Placement Test (PEPT) and the Alternative Learning System Accreditation and Equivalency (ALS A & E) Program of the Department of Education, students who have stopped schooling now have better options.
PEPT
The Philippine Educational Placement Test or PEPT is a test that seeks to evaluate a student’s competency in five core subjects – English, Filipino, Science, Mathematics, and Social Studies – in relation to their age. By taking the PEPT, a student who fell behind their classmates because of dropping out from school can have the option to skip the grade or year levels they would normally be required to complete as long as they can prove that their competency is equivalent to students the same age as theirs.
For example, a 12-year-old student who stopped during the third grade can choose to skip the fourth and fifth grades and be automatically promoted to sixth grade as long as he’ll pass the test. The same also goes for High School students. A 16-year-old student who stopped in her first year of high school can choose to skip the second and third years and be automatically promoted to the fourth year as long as she can prove that she is as competent as any 4th year High School student.
ALS A & E
Like PEPT, the Alternative Learning System Accreditation and Equivalency or ALS A & E seeks to evaluate the competency of a student who has stopped schooling; however, contrary to PEPT that is primarily concerned with promoting students to their rightful grade or year levels in relation to their age, ALS A & E is more concerned with helping people who have not had or have stopped formal schooling become eligible to pursue higher education at a college or university or be employed or promoted at a private company or government agency. Examples of these are out-of-school youths, industry-based workers like domestic helpers; factory workers; and drivers, people with disabilities, members of cultural minorities like Aetas and Mangyans, and former inmates and rebels.
If you are interested in taking the PEPT or ALS A & E, you may get in touch with the officials of the Department of Education through the following contact information:

Hello po pwede pa po ba mag register sa PEPT kahit malapit na ang test sa november?
Hi, Camille!
The deadline for registration was August 2015, so probably not. If you still want to give it a shot, though, we suggest you contact the Department of Education for verification.
🙁
Hi Camille! As much as we’d like to help with your concern, we’re not affiliated with DepEd, so we’re afraid we can’t answer that question for you. We suggest you call the nearest DepEd division office so they can give you a more accurate and detailed response.
Good morning po,
I’m turning 16 this year po, pero grade 8 pa din po ako kasi nagstop po ako ng 2 years due to financial problems. Could I possibly take the PEPT test po? And if ever I pass the test, anong grade po ako eh diba po may k-12 na dito.
Thank you.:)
Godbless.
Hi good afternoon po ma’am/sir,mag tatanong lang po,It’s been 9 years po kasi mula nung nag graduate po ako sa high school, anu po ang madaganda ko kunin PEPT po ba o ALS po?
Hi, Monaliza!
We believe, the ALS A & E Test would be more appropriate in your case.
🙂
Hello po. I really want to take PEPT exam this year. Hope you can help me out to know the details.
Hi, Rowena!
You’ll find information about the upcoming PEPT 2015 on the page below.

Hmm can i ask im a iregular HS student ksi meron akong naiwan na back subject from 1st year and second year ALS A&E ba dapat kung kunin na Test para maka kuha na ako ng Diploma for HS.. Im Working now
Hi, Marvie!
If you just want to make it to the year you were supposed to be on based on your age, then the PEPT is the one for you. For example, if you stopped on your first year in high school and you are already 16 years old, then you can get the PEPT so you can skip the first, second, and third years and enroll as a fourth year student instead. If you are past the standard age for high schoolers (used to be 16 years of age) then the ALS A & E Test is the one for you. We’re not sure how the implementation of the K-12 program has affected the PEPT and the ALS A & E Test, though, so you might want to check with the Department of Education for more information.

Hello po . Ask ko lang po ano pong mas dapat kong i-take als or pept? nag stop po kc aq ng 3rd year high school ng 3rd quarter po. Nag ka baby po kc aq 16yo po ako nun . Now im 18 years old na po , gsto ko na pong asikasuhin pag study ko . Malaki na din naman po baby ko kaya gusto ko po sana mag take ng als or pept? Anong po bang much better kong itake? Please reply . THANK YOU !
Hi, Katherine!
If you’re already aiming for a high school diploma, ALS A & E would probably be the better option since you can go straight to college after passing the test.
🙂
Hi, Jeff!
The exam is usually held around June but the actual date may vary. We suggest you visit the DepEd website or get in touch with the nearest DepEd office so they can give you a more accurate response.
As for the requirements, you’ll find them on this page:

Hi, Jhonabelle!
We’re sorry, but we have no available information regarding the passers of the November 2014 ALS A & E Test. We suggest that you check the Department of Education’s website for announcements.
🙂
Hi!!tanung ko lang po,,im 29yrs old 3rd year highschool lng nrating ko..ano po ba dapat kong kunin??PEPTest o ALS??
Hi, Hsirt21!
We’re not too sure about it, but we believe the ALS A & E Test would be the better option because passing it is equivalent to graduating from high school while passing the PEPT test will only promote you to the year level that is equivalent to your age. That’s just based from what we know, though. It’s still best if you’ll consult official representatives of the Bureau of Alternative Learning System of the Department of Education so they can give you a more accurate response.
🙂

Hi, Margarita!
We’re sorry, but as much as we’d like to help with your concern, we’re not affiliated with DepEd, so we’re afraid we can’t answer that question for you. We suggest you call the nearest DepEd division office to inform them of your situation. Hopefully, they might be able to arrange something for you.

Hello sir,
I would like to know if I’m qualified to take the PEPT exam. I use to live in the states then came back here but I could not enroll since I came in the middle of the school year. I am currently a 3rd year high school student and supposed to be 4th year high school. I was wondering if after I finish my third year; I could take the PEPT and skip fourth year s I could go to college.
Hi, Stephanie!
Thanks for visiting our site.
The target of the PEPT are students who are at least a year older than the supposed age of students who are in their grade/year level, so as long as you’ll meet the requirements they’ve set, you’ll probably be good to go.

God Bless!
Hi, Hushbaby!
Thanks for visiting our site.
The ALS program is only for those who haven’t obtained their elementary or high school diplomas yet. Since you’ve already graduated from high school, you no longer have to go through the program.
If you meant you want to finish your college education without going through the traditional process, what you can take is the Expanded Tertiary Equivalency and Accreditation Program (ETEEAP).
http://www.ched.gov.ph/chedwww/index.php/eng/Projects-and-Programs/Expanded-Tertiary-Education-Equivalency-and-Accreditation-Program-ETEEAP
By enrolling in the program, you may be able to use your accumulated work experience in exchange for course credits; allowing you to finish what was supposed to be a four or five-year degree program in a much shorter time. The process depends on the schools offering the program, though, so it’s best if you’ll contact them directly so they can tell you more about the program, the procedure, and the requirements.
Good luck! 🙂
hello there! I’m one of PEPT Passer from grade 6 promoted to 2nd yr high…..no I have a permanent job….hoping for those interested to finish their studies there is always a chance and solutions for every trials

Hi, Mhel!
DepEd has different offices that handle different cities/regions, so you’ll probably have to get in touch with the one that has jurisdiction over the place your friend lives.
You can find the contact information of the different regional offices through the link below.

Hi, Mhel!
Unfortunately, as much as we’d like to help you out, it’s not for us to decide. The Bureau of Alternative Learning System (under the supervision of the Department of Education) oversees the ALS A & E Test so it’s best if you’ll get in touch with them so you can ask them if they can give your friend a special consideration. 🙁

Hi, Mhel!
Thanks for visiting our site.
As far as we know, there are no age limits for the PEPT except that they ask the applicant to be at least one year over-aged for their supposed grade/year level in the formal school system.
Basic requirements are:
Form 137/138
Birth Certificate
Transcript of record of the last grade/year level passed
Two 1×1 pictures
The exam for 2012 was just recently concluded so there hasn’t been any announcements regarding the next exam. We’ll surely update our visitors once we’ve heard of any updates, though.
You might also want to tell your friend about the Alternative Learning System Accreditation and Equivalency Test, so he/she can have another option to choose from.

As far as we know, PEPT and ALS A & E Test are only conducted once a year. You may check with the Bureau of Alternative Learning System if you want to be sure, though.
Hi, Anna!
Thanks for visiting our site.
We’re sorry but we have no available information about Registration and Testing Centers or schools that are offering ALS classes in Caloocan. You can visit the nearest public elementary school, high school, or barangay hall, though, and they’ll tell you where to go.
Good luck! 🙂
Hi, Kimhyuk!
Thanks for visiting our site.
It depends whether you’re going to enroll in the Accreditation and Equivalency class or the livelihood program. The A & E class takes a minimum of 800 hours to complete while the livelihood program will depend on which vocational /TESDA course you’re going to take. Gas Metal Arc Welding NC I, for example, takes about 248 hours while Commercial Cooking NC II takes about 436 hours to complete.
🙂

good morning sir/mam,tanong ko lang poh sana kung pwede mag take ng exam yong mga 20-22 years old?
Hi, Loidz!
Thanks for visiting our site.
As far as we know, anyone can take the PEPT and ALS A & E Test as long as they meet the basic requirements and they are 6 years old and above for PEPT, and 11 years old and above (elementary level) / 15 years old and above (high school level) for ALS A & E Test.

Hello, I am interested taking the Acceleration exam, do i have to attend the sit-in class or ill just have to go the facility and take the Acceleration Exam?? how long will the result come out??
thank you
Hi, Chloe!
Thanks for visiting our site.
We’ve been trying to find out the answer to that question, but unfortunately, we haven’t confirmed it yet. For now, it would be best if you’ll contact the Bureau of Alternative System directly so they can address your concern properly.
As for the results, the ALS A & E test for 2011 was held on the month of October and the results came out around May, so it took more or less six months.
🙂
Excuse me sir/mam, do you offer a home study program specialy for those people with disabilities?
Hi, Lyndon!
Thanks for visiting our site.
From what we know, There are ALS classes that can be attended online. We don’t have available information about how and where these classes can be taken, though, so it’s best if you’ll contact the DepEd office nearest your place so they can give you a more accurate and more detailed response.
Good luck! 🙂
