Philippine Merchant Marine Academy

Philippine Merchant Marine Academy, commonly known as PMMA, is the premiere merchant marine academy of the Philippines.

Founded in 1820 under the name Escuela Nautica de Manila, it went through several transformations from a school for merchant marine officers supervised by the Spanish and American governments into a state-run merchant marine academy under the direct supervision of the Commission on Higher Education.

It adopted its current name in 1963 and has since been known as one of the producers of top marine engineers and marine officers in the country with its graduates given the option to pursue a career in the Philippine Navy or the Philippine Coast Guard.
