Senior High School Specialized Subject: Fitness Testing and Basic Exercise Programming



Fitness Testing and Basic Exercise Programming is one of the specialized subjects under the sports career track. Some examples of the things that you will learn from taking this subject include:

  • Testing health-related fitness parameters
    • Cardio-respiratory endurance
    • Muscular fitness
    • Flexibility
    • Body composition
  • Testing skill-related fitness parameters
    • Speed
    • Power
    • Agility
    • Balance
    • Coordination
    • Reaction time
  • Exercise programming for healthy individuals

While studying, you will also be asked to demonstrate what you have learned by participating in class activities that may include the following:

  • Distinguishing the proper tests for specific fitness parameters
  • Demonstrating the correct performance of fitness test procedures
  • Evaluating test results based on age, exercise readiness (PAR-Q), and physical activity status
  • Devising exercise programs based on set fitness or performance goals and fitness test results
  • Illustrating the proper performanceof the exercises
  • Making adjustments to training parameters (FITT) according to training response
