Senior High School Specialized Subject: Landscape Installation and Maintenance



Landscape Installation and Maintenance is one of the specialized subjects under the technical-vocational livelihood (TVL) career track. Some examples of the things that you will learn from taking this subject include:

  • Landscape Installation
    • Site analysis and inventory
    • Concept and planting plans
    • Site clearing and grubbing or excavating activities
    • Rough grading operation
    • Site preparation activities
    • Installation of plants at designated locations as designed in the planting plan
    • Installation of plant support
    • Installation of plant props/braces or propping bracing
  • Maintenance Operation
    • Trimming and pruning of landscape plants
    • Weeding and cultivation
    • Fertilizer application
    • Watering of plants
    • Control and prevention of plant pest and diseases
    • Plant support
    • Lawn grass maintenance
    • Replanting activities

While studying, you will also be asked to demonstrate what you have learned by participating in class activities that may include the following:

  • Recognizing PECs needed in landscape installation and maintenance
  • Recognizing and understanding the market in landscape installation and maintenance
  • Creating new business ideas in landscape Installation and maintenance
  • Drafting and preparing a planting plan appropriate for the area
  • Removing unwanted vegetation and debris according to instructions
  • Protecting trees designed to be retained according to standards
  • Gathering and disposing of waste materials in accordance with environmental standards
  • Performing rough site grading to achieve desired elevations or slopes
  • Grading the site to drain surface water and shape the land
  • Protecting the newly graded site against disturbance and potential hazards
  • Adding amended soil/soil mix to cultivated land
  • Inspecting delivered plants based on the plant list or planting plan
  • Laying out or staking out plants
  • Applying / installing mulch
  • Installing plant guy
  • Identifying compacted soil
  • Cultivating compacted soil
  • Identifying requirements of landscape plants
  • Identifying requirements for removal and replanting of landscape plants
  • Segregating and process collected organic waste
  • Making use of organic waste
  • Performing post-disposal and utilization of organic waste
