Senior High School Specialized Subject: Organic Agriculture



Organic Agriculture is one of the specialized subjects under the technical-vocational livelihood (TVL) career track. Some examples of the things that you will learn from taking this subject include:

    • Select healthy stock and suitable housing
    • Set-up cage equipment
    • Feed Chicken
    • Grow and Harvest Chicken
  • Organic Vegetable Production
    • Establish Nursery
    • Plant seedlings
    • Perform plant care and management
  • Harvest and Post-harvest Activities
    • Prepare composting area and raw materials
    • Compost and harvest fertilizer
  • Organic Concoction Production
    • Prepare for the production of various concoction and extracts
    • Process concoctions
    • Package concoctions

While studying, you will also be asked to demonstrate what you have learned by participating in class activities that may include the following:

  • Recognizing PECs needed in organic agriculture
  • Recognizing and understanding the market and potential market in organic agriculture
  • Creating new business ideas in organic agriculture
  • Selecting healthy stocks and suitable housing
  • Determining suitable site for chicken house
  • Setting up brooding facility based on the housing equipment installation design
  • Preparing feed materials following prescribed formulation
  • Collecting and formulating organic waste for fertilizer
  • Selecting suitable chicken for harvest based on market specifications
  • Performing land preparations according to prescribed practice
  • Identifying beneficial microorganism and introduce it prior to planting vegetable crops
  • Transplanting vegetable seedlings
  • Implementing water management system according to plan
  • Determining effective control measures for specific pests and diseases
  • Checking products using maturity indices of vegetable crops
  • Classifying marketable products
  • Applying appropriate composting method based on production requirements
  • Monitoring compost based on Philippine National Standard’s indications of fully decomposed fertilizer
  • Fermenting various organic concoctions following organic practices
  • Labeling and tagging packaged concoctions according to industry practice
