Senior High School Specialized Subject: Psychosocial Aspects of Sports and Exercise



Psychosocial Aspects of Sports and Exercise is one of the specialized subjects under the sports career track. Some examples of the things that you will learn from taking this subject include:

  • Motivation in sports and exercise
  • Group dynamics in sports and exercise
  • Arousal, stress, and anxiety in sports and exercise
  • Sports, exercise, and well-being

While studying, you will also be asked to demonstrate what you have learned by participating in class activities that may include the following:

  • Explaining how different types of motivation affect sports performance and exercise participation
  • Using motivational strategies to encourage sports and exercise participation
  • Explaining the importance of group structure, role clarity, and acceptance for effective team functioning
  • Discussing the effects of group cohesion in sports performance and exercise participation
  • Describing arousal, stress, and anxiety in sports and exercise settings
  • Explaining how arousal and anxiety affects sports performance and exercise participation
  • Describing different strategies in regulating arousal, coping with stress and anxiety in sports and exercise
  • Describing symptoms of burnout, and overtraining in sports and exercise participants
  • Explaining the psychological impact of injuries in sports and exercise participants
