Lester Rosas on Bachelor of Fine Arts

Name: Lester Rosas

Course Taken: Bachelor of Fine Arts

Current Job: Graphic Artist

Job Responsibilities: Creating original designs, tracing freehand drawings and converting them into digital illustrations.

Why did you choose to take the course you did?

I like to draw in my free time, so I thought BFA would probably be a good course to take up.

For you, what was the most interesting part of studying BFA? What about the most challenging?

Drawing nude paintings? Haha! Kidding aside, I think it’s rather interesting because you get to study human anatomy up close. You’ll notice things you didn’t pay attention to before and it makes you more appreciative of the structure of the human body.

The challenging part would probably be doing paper mache because they can get kind of boring sometimes.

What kind of activities did you do when you were still a BFA student?

Portraits, experimenting with different materials, figure drawings – those are some of the things I can remember off the top of my head.

What were the things you learned from taking up BFA that you find very useful in your current work?

Probably shading and using image editing software.

Do you have any advice for incoming college students who are thinking of taking the course you did?

Follow your heart. It’s difficult to do something you don’t really like. It won’t only limit your potential, it might also end up becoming a waste of time and money.

Do you think you chose the right course? Why or why not?

I think so. I enjoy what I’m doing, so I think I made the right decision.
