Senior High School Core Subject: Statistics and Probability

Statistics and Probability is one of the core subjects of the senior high school curriculum. Some examples of the things that you will learn from taking this subject include:

  • Random Variables and Probability Distributions
  • Normal Distribution
  • Sampling and Sampling Distributions
  • Estimation of Parameters
  • Tests of Hypothesis
  • Correlation and Regression Analyses

While studying, you will also be asked to demonstrate what you have learned by participating in class activities that may include the following:

  • Finding the possible values of a random variable
  • Constructing the probability mass function of a discrete random variable and its corresponding histogram
  • Computing probabilities corresponding to a given random variable.
  • Calculating the mean and the variance of a discrete random variable
  • Solving problems involving mean and variance of probability distributions
  • Solving problems involving sampling distributions of the sample mean
  • Constructing a normal curve
  • Converting a normal random variable to a standard normal variable and vice versa
  • Computing probabilities and percentiles using the standard normal table
  • Illustrating point and interval estimations
  • Computing for the point estimate of the population mean
  • Constructing a t-distribution
  • Computing for the confidence interval estimate based on the appropriate form of the estimator for the population mean
  • Computing for the point estimate of the population proportion
  • Computing for the length of the confidence interval
  • Computing for the test-statistic value (population mean)
  • Formulating the appropriate null and alternative hypotheses on a population proportion.
  • Computing for the test-statistic value (population proportion)
  • Constructing a scatter plot
  • Calculating the Pearson’s sample correlation coefficient
  • Drawing the best-fit line on a scatter plot
  • Solving problems involving regression analysis

These examples only cover the scope of the core subjects. For the scope of the contextualized and specialized subjects, please refer to their respective lists.
