Senior High School Specialized Subject: Horticulture



Horticulture is one of the specialized subjects under the technical-vocational livelihood (TVL) career track. Some examples of the things that you will learn from taking this subject include:

      • Staking the site
      • Installation of irrigation system
      • Digging holes
    • Growing Seedlings
      • Gathering and preparation of growing media component
      • Hastening germination by seed treatment
      • Performing bagging operations
      • Sowing seeds in plastic bags
      • Determination of fruit maturity
      • Preparation of appropriate harvesting materials and tools
      • Harvesting of fruits
    • Transplanting seedlings
      • Application of basal fertilizer
      • Planting of seedlings
    • Growing Trees
      • Application of fertilizer materials based on needs and recommendation rates

While studying, you will also be asked to demonstrate what you have learned by participating in class activities that may include the following:

  • Recognizing PECs needed in horticulture
  • Recognizing and understand the market and potential market in horticulture
  • Creating new business ideas in horticulture business by using various techniques
  • Staking the site according to standard method and tree species requirements
  • Setting up drip irrigation systems according to standard procedures
  • Mixing growing media components according to desired proportions and established procedures
  • Performing different methods of seed germination according to plant species and tree growing
  • Demonstrating proper harvesting of fruits according to crop requirements and crop manual
  • Determining appropriate planting methods according to plant species and requirements
  • Employing appropriate pest control measures according to plant requirements and established procedure
