Senior High School Specialized Subject: Aquaculture (Fish or Shrimp Grow-out Operations)

Fish or Shrimp Grow-out Operations is one of the specialized subjects under the technical-vocational livelihood (TVL) career track. Some examples of the things that you will learn from taking this subject include:

While studying, you will also be asked to demonstrate what you have learned by participating in class activities that may include the following:

  • Generating a clear appealing product brand
  • Preparing the pond for the fish
  • Installing pens and cages
  • Cleaning the tanks
  • Determine the stocking density considering the pond capacity
  • Assess fingerling quality
  • Undertake regular stock sampling
  • Sampling and analyzing feeds
  • Monitoring water quality using appropriate measuring instruments
  • Monitoring disease through physical appearance and behavioral patterns of the stock
  • Diagnosing Infected fish
  • Identifying and implementing recommended treatment
  • Preventing/safeguarding the stock against occurrences of viral, bacterial, fungal and parasitic diseases
  • Scheduling harvest and market of products
  • Using seine in pond and cages to harvest the stock
  • Lifting the cages to collect the stock
  • Packing and transporting harvested fishes
  • Preparing cost and return analysis of the project
  • Keeping financial records
